Fertility Acupuncture
Acupuncture, which can be incorporated into a patient’s infertility treatment plan, has been shown to have physical and emotional benefits. It can help regulate menstrual cycles, improve blood flow to the pelvic area and uterine lining, and reduce stress and anxiety issues such as insomnia, headaches and constipation. For some patients, acupuncture is a new experience while others have found it helpful for other unrelated conditions.
RMACT supports patients in their journey towards wellness for mind, body and spirit, which may include integrated services such as acupuncture. By conducting our own clinical study and through anecdotal feedback from patients, we know that acupuncture can positively impact the results of fertility care. RMACT provides two types of acupuncture – traditional and laser – to give our patients the best available options.
Acupuncture for Fertility | Integrated Fertility and Wellness Program
As part of its Integrated Fertility and Wellness Program, RMACT offers the services of two experienced acupuncturists, both of whom trained in China and have practiced extensively in the United States. We also offer both traditional and laser acupuncture for fertility treatment.
Traditional Acupuncture
Traditional Acupuncture uses ultrathin, sterile needles placed at strategic energy points around the body to regulate the flow of qi (life force) to restore balance and promote natural healing. Numerous studies support the efficacy of acupuncture. A landmark study published in Fertility and Sterility reported that a group of women undergoing IVF who received acupuncture both before and after embryo transfer had a higher pregnancy success rate (42.5%) than a control group that did not receive acupuncture treatment (26.3%).
Laser Acupuncture Fertility Treatments
RMACT is the only fertility center in New England to offer Laser acupuncture. Like traditional acupuncture, laser acupuncture regulates qi and helps balance the body, except it uses infrared light energy to stimulate acupuncture points instead of needles. This low dose therapeutic laser is sometimes referred to as a “cold laser” because the energy level is low and patients do not feel heat from it. Laser is a viable alternative for individuals who may have a fear of needles. RMACT is a leader in the field of laser acupuncture; having been part of a stand-out clinical study that found laser acupuncture performed both before and after embryo transfer in an In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) cycle improved a woman’s chances of implantation by up to 15%.
